Celebrating the life of

Donna Marie DeNitto Burns

March 05, 1961 - November 13, 2012

Donna Marie DeNitto Burns

Donna Marie DeNitto Burns died peacefully at home Tuesday, November 13, 2012 after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Donna was born in Savannah, March 5, 1961, daughter of Paul and Carolyn DeNitto. Donna was a loving wife to Mark for 29 years and devoted mother to Maggie and Emily. When you met Donna you knew instantly that she was full of life, fun spirited and so very proud of her children's accomplishments. She loved to spend time at her beach house, decorating and gardening, celebrating holidays and birthdays but always enjoying time with her family. As much as Donna loved life, she found comfort knowing that her son, Zach, and Daddy Paul would be waiting for her.

Surviving are her husband Mark L. Burns, daughters Maggie Elizabeth and Emily Marie Burns, mother Carolyn DeNitto and her best friends, sisters Patty Hildreth and Joan DeNitto Roberts, brothers-in-law Jim Hildreth and Dave Roberts, nephews Matthew Dillon and his wife Paula, Jake and Beau Roberts and mother-in-law Gloria Mullins.

Visitation: 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 15, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 16, 2012 at St. James Catholic Church.

Mark, I have tried to think about what to write regarding the pain you and your family must be enduring now. I remember the time when I was little being around you and how I looked up to you and I still do. When my mom called and told us about Donna we were completely stunned. Donna was a very sweet and kind lady who Glenda and I thought the world of. I tried to think about the words to offer some kind of comfort to you but I honestly can't. I found this verse in the Bible that I hope will help. I do know that Christ Jesus and Zach were waiting for her with open arms. We love you so very much. Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Blessed indeed,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, for their deeds follow them!

To the family, Patty and Donna were childhood friends when I was growing up on Brandywine Road. The DeNittos lived across the lane from us. In the early 1960s we girls, along with the Gleaton sisters, the Levine boys and other kids spent many carefree hours riding bikes, climbing trees, walking fences and annoying old Granny Stokes. I used to give Donna rides on my bike, toting her in the basket. I recall the time Donna found a kitten in the lane; it lived with us for years. Donna was a lovely little girl, so many years ago. I am very sorry that she suffered and passed away, and will keep her in my prayers.

- Julia Jones Williams, Savannah, GA

My prayers are with you and your family. May the peace of God that passes all understanding guard your hearts today.

Mark, Patty, Joan and Mrs. DeNitto, Just yesterday I was remembering the Halloween costumes that we made one year. She was a witch and I was the bat. The one thing we didn't consider was the width of my wing span. I couldn't get in the car. We put the top down on her convertible blue bug. Donna drove in her witch costume and I sat on the back of the bug. It was some great times that I had with Donna. I have often missed Donna in our recent years as our paths just went in different directions. I have had your family in my prayers and have been feeling very heavily burdened for you. I wish there was something that I could do to help with your sorrow. Donna will be greatly missed. You are all in my prayers.
